Sandra MacPherson has been working with watercolours since 1992. Largely self-taught, she studied at the Ontario College of Art & Design and with various professional artists. Her portfolio of watercolour and acrylic paintings includes landscapes, buildings, floral, still life, and figurative works. She loves the tangible, lasting result of successfully completed paintings that capture and hold fleeting moments, changing light, or the historic architecture that is fast disappearing from our landscapes.
Known for creating paintings that express the warmth of home and community, Sandra is often commissioned to paint “house portraits” for people wishing to give them as gifts to family and friends. Her tiny 5 x 7 painting, “Peonies”, a watercolour created for a wedding invitation, is included in the permanent art collection at the historic Heintzman House in Thornhill.
Sandra is a member of the Coldwater and Area Studio Tour, the Lake Scugog Studio Tour, and the Scugog Council for the Arts. She is an associate member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, and a Past-President of the Willowdale Group of Artists. Sandra has participated in group and solo shows in York Region, Scugog, Huronia, Parry Sound, and Toronto.
In 2016, Sandra moved with her husband and daughter to a rural property in Port Perry, overlooking Lake Scugog. There Sandra continues to develop her art in new studio space and is excited to be opening her gallery on the property in Spring, 2017.Sandra’s artwork is included in private and corporate collections across Canada.
